Wanted: unwanted running shoes
Online running shoe, clothing and gear retailer SportsShoes.com has partnered with shoe recycling initiative JogOn and logistics provider Evri to enable customers to donate their unwanted running shoes, keep them out of landfill and in use.
For a fixed fee of £2, the service allows customers to send up to six pairs of unwanted running shoes, weighing a maximum of 15 kilos, to JogOn.
Around 18 billion athletic shoes are sold globally each year, according to JogOn, and approximately 30 million end up in landfill annually. The recycling organisation has set itself the goal of keeping one million pairs of used running shoes out of landfill each year.
It wants to distribute donated shoes to charities, non-profit groups and micro-economies in 15 destinations around the world.
