Textiles and footwear products make Time’s Best Inventions list for 2022
Time Magazine has included textile and footwear breakthroughs among its Best Inventions for 2022.
The magazine has published this list every year for two decades, but has always listed 100 ideas for each year. “This year, in a rapidly shifting world,” it said, “innovation boomed. So in 2022, for the first time ever, we selected the year’s 200 Best Inventions.” It evaluates contenders on originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact.
This year, in a category it called Style, it included NuCycl, described its developer, textile innovations company Evrnu, as the first commercially available lyocell material made from chemically recycling post-consumer cotton textile waste. In the same category, Time also included Spinnova’s wood pulp-derived fibre for textiles.
In a separate category, Fitness, footwear group Merrell also won a mention for its MTL Long Sky 2 running shoe.
