Bluesign offers Vibram a step up

Italy-based producer of branded rubber outsoles Vibram has joined the ranks of textile chemicals certification body Bluesign’s system partner network, an ecosystem of 800-plus organisations united in their mission to reduce environmental impact.

Although they have been working together for around two years, the collaborators officially joined hands back in November. Already, internal analysis has led Vibram to examine the chemicals used in the manufacture of its supplier-sourced raw materials and components, review its restricted substances policies, plus more. Next, they aim to certify Vibram’s customisable Component kit.

“Bluesign’s methodology is among the most demanding in sustainability for textiles," commented global sustainability director at Vibram, Marco Guazzoni.

“Vibram aims to contribute its expertise to create a potential standard method for footwear that adds value to our industry, rather than penalising.”

Notably, the company’s inclusion on the list marks a first for both a footwear brand and a shoe sole manufacturer, according to group compliance manager, Igor Brassini.
