Fluorocarbon-free performance brand Artilect, based in Boulder, Colorado, has become the latest to incorporate Baur Vliesstoffe’s Lavalan Sport natural wool insulation into its outdoor jackets.

The wool is mulesing-free, traceable and sourced in Europe, according to its developer.

Beyond its inherent biodegradability, odour resistance and water-repellence, the material can also “absorb and release vapour up to 36% its dry weight”. A corn-derived polylactic acid or PLA fibre enhances its stability.

Other adoptees of Lavalan Sport include brands such as On, Vaude, Ziener, Fjällräven and Black Diamond.
