Athletic brand Nike has announced plans to invest $3.2 million in sports development programmes targeted at native-American and indigenous young people in the US over the coming five years.

Its objective is to allocate up to $20,000 per partnered National Football League (NFL) club annually, which it expects clubs will subsequently use to “invite local indigenous youth to experience football and sport, and inspire them to keep playing”, Nike said.

Beneficiaries must use the additional funds to build upon learnings from similar projects with indigenous communities in recent years, the company continued.

Along these lines, its dedicated N7 arm will deliver a youth sport camp with the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe alongside football team Las Vegas Raiders in the run-up to the upcoming Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, during which the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the San Francisco 49ers.
