The fabric used, Negombo, was developed by Decathlon with The Lycra Company, and is made from Lycra T400. This stretch polyester-type yarn is partially biobased and makes it possible to create near monomaterial swimsuits.
But the presence of elastic edging is difficult to process by recyclers, as Acerina Trejo Machín, head of technology at Resortecs, points out. The company’s patented technologies, Smart Stitch and Smart Disassembly, enable the automatic disassembly of clothing, a 63% increase in material recovery and at a scale of up to 10 tonnes a day, she says.
