French partners sign polyester recycling agreement

26/07/2024

Developer of enzymatic depolymerisation technology Carbios has signed a memorandum of understanding with a specialist in recovery of end-of-life textiles, Nouvelles Fibres Textiles.

Through this new partnership, Carbios aims to increase its supply of polyester textiles to use as raw material for the biorecycling plant that it is constructing at Longlaville in France.

From 2026, the target will be for Nouvelles Fibres Textiles to redirect 5,000 tonnes of used or end-of-life polyester textiles to Carbios each year for an initial period of five years.

At the Longlaville plant, Carbios will use enzymes to break the polyester fibres down into their basic components. It will then use these components to produce high-quality recycled polyester materials, including new fibres for the textile industry.
