Refashion takes on a wider scope

Refashion, the organisation that manages Extended Producer Responsibility fees in France for the apparel, footwear and home textiles has released its annual report, providing insight into a concept that is being considered by other countries globally. The system has been applied since 2008 for this category of goods.

In 2023 the organisation saw its responsibilities expand to include the launch of a Repair Bonus, a subsidy provided to consumers seeking to repair goods, from electronics to clothing. It has benefitted from increased support for sorting operators to develop sorting and recycling technologies and capacities and for innovation and experimentation in recycling. It contributed €1.7 million to seven R&D projects in 2023.

Last year, the organisation onboarded new collection operators which can now include structures operating in the social and solidarity economy.

268,161 tonnes of used clothing, home textiles and footwear were collected in France in the course of the year, representing nearly 4 kg per inhabitant.

The modulated eco-fees collected amounted to €101.5 million last year, for the 3.25 billion items of clothing, home textiles and shoes were commercialised in France. The average fee paid per item was thus €0.031.
