Bag brand breakthrough for Spinnova

21/10/2024

Fibre developer Spinnova has worked with bag brand ASK Scandinavia to bring to market a new work tote bag.

The product is made from 30% wood-based Spinnova fibres and 70% cotton. The fabric has been dyed with dye from Natural Indigo Finland, developed from coffee waste from Helsinki-based food group Paulig.

It is the first commercially available product containing Spinnova fibres coloured with natural dyes. The bag will be available for pre-order at the end of 2024.

Director of design and sustainability at ASK Scandinavia, Anette Cantagallo, said: “We are honoured to collaborate with pioneers like Spinnova and Natural Indigo Finland, whose innovations are setting new standards in fashion. We are committed to lowering the industry's environmental impact by integrating next-gen materials that replace conventional, non-renewable resources.”

She said that by combining Spinnova’s fibre technology with natural dyes made from coffee waste, the brand was demonstrating “a forward-thinking approach to responsible design”.

Chief product and sustainability officer at Spinnova, Shahriare Mahmood, said the company had set out “to explore the versatility of the fibre” in different applications and dyeing methods. “We are very satisfied with the result,” he said.
