Next phase for Microfibre Roadmap

The Microfibre Consortium (TMC) has published the Microfibre Roadmap v2, which it describes as an updated route for the apparel industry to work towards zero impact of fibre fragmentation.

The first version of the Microfibre Roadmap was launched in 2021, alongside the Microfibre 2030 Commitment.

That launch enabled a significant scaling up of fabric testing to generate deeper understandings of the challenge that faced the industry. Led by TMC and informed by insights from the Microfibre Data Portal, there has since been an acceleration of knowledge and understanding that has led to a point of strategic reflection, and the development of an updated roadmap that meets evolving topic priorities and industry needs.

Dr Kelly Sheridan, CEO of TMC, said: “Since 2018, The Microfibre Consortium has driven significant progress in enabling the sector to take action on fibre fragmentation.

“The launch of the Microfibre Roadmap v2.0 is a rallying call for our industry, to really bring this topic to centre stage and enter a new era of collaboration. We’re grateful to all our signatories for their invaluable support so far. Now, we are ready to kick-start the next phase, addressing multiple pathways, connecting datasets, predicting shedding rates, and maximising impactful actions.”

Signatories include Adidas, Haglofs, Fashion for Good, Marmot, Lululemon, New Balance, the North Face and Patagonia.
