New performance merino wool concept
CUT, for Cifra Unique Technology, is a new concept by Italian warp-knitter Cifra that pushes the performance and aesthetic boundaries of merino in knits. “For this project, we worked with Sudwolle, for the yarn, and Tintoria Emiliana, for the finishing,” company owner Cesare Citerrio told Sportstextiles at Performance Days last week. These two partners were instrumental in the development process, with Tintoria Emiliana creating a special finishing to achieve a very soft hand feel.

Made on Karl Mayer machines, CUT fabrics are currently available in two weights, in 210 and 250 sq m/g, and have varying proportions of merino wool (from 58 to 77%). They offer good mechanical elasticity, without the presence of elastane, can be clean cut for seamless finishing and customised to a brand’s specifications. The jacquard knits can create decors or targeted functions, from added warmth to added breathability.

The new performance merino wool concept can be made for close-fitting and looser styles. Merino wool is one of the few fibres that won’t absorb unpleasant odours and remains comfortable across changing conditions.
