Syre eyes Vietnam for next facility

H&M-backed textile recycler Syre appears to have chosen Vietnam as the location for its first “circular textile hub”, as reported by Vietnamese news agency VNA. In talks with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, it has shared plans to invest from $700 million to 1 billion in the creation of a fabric production complex at Nhon Hoi A Industrial Park, Nhon Hoi Economic Zone, Binh Dinh.

Expected capacity is 250,000 tonnes per year, but the lack of a structured framework for collecting waste textiles and used clothing in Vietnam is said to pose challenges.

Syre has developed a glycolysis recycling method that depolymerises polyester from textiles.
