Finnish forestry specialist Metsä Group, which is is currently considering the potential for the launch of Kuura, a new lyocell-type fibre, has formed a partnership with chemicals company Kemira, also based in Finalnd, to pursue research into its industrial feasibility. Metsä said its new manmade cellulosic fibre (MMCF) is in pre-engineering phase. This is where Kemira’s expertise in chemistry and processing may help bring the project to market.

“We believe our several decades long experience in cellulosic fibre chemistry can make a difference,” said Riikka Timonen, Kemira’s head of sales. “Our chemical solutions play a crucial role in maximising circularity, enabling process feasibility, and achieving the desired end product specifications.”
