New solution reduces odours and fibre fragmentation
Swiss company Livinguard Technologies has developed a new textile finish, Better Fresh, which combines an odour control function with a mechanism to limit textile microfibre shedding.
Officially launched at the Functional Fabric Fair in NYC and Functional Textiles in Shanghai, the technology is the result of 15 years of research and development into natural actives used for textile finishes, the company said.
Independend tests have found that Better Fresh can reduce relevant odorants by up to 99% (based on the ISO 17299-3 standard). The finish give a fabric a positive charge that traps and absorbs odour molecules.
Fibre loss was tested by Intertek Laboratories using the ISO 8848-2 method, as well as in-house based on the AATCC TM212 microfiber shedding protocol. A reduction in fibre loss attributable to the Livinguard Better Fresh treatment was found to be above 70% and in some instances exceed 90% during the first 10 washes, the company said.
