Hyosung: Water, climate resilience and retro will shape SS27 trends

Hyosung’s Fashion Design Center (FDC), a trends research studio that spans the US, Europe and Asia, has unveiled its spring-summer 27 Textile Trend report.

The report embraces three mega trends, subsequent themes across market segments and the materials that apparel brands are expected to integrate into their collections for the season.

The first theme suggests wellness is shifting from travel-based escapes to everyday recovery practices, with water emerging as a central medium for restoration. This, known as Blue Wellness, reflects a growing embrace of rituals such as outdoor swimming and cold plunge therapy.

As climate change becomes an undeniable part of daily life, trends like ‘coolcationing’ to cooler destinations, temperature-regulating tech and the rise of textile-to-textile recycling reflect how consumers are adjusting to environmental shifts while minimising their impact, said the trends experts of trend two.

Thirdly, retro style has reemerged as a major fashion trend, driven by millennials seeking comfort in nostalgia and Gen Z embracing past aesthetics. Preppy styles also feature colour blocking and stripes, adding individuality while preserving the charm of past decades.

More detailed information on FDC’s SS 27 Textile Trends will be presented in a weekly Trend Byte series featured on the Hyosung Performance Textiles Creativity Inspired blog.
