Recycled polyester start-up secures Bestseller’s backing
Lower Saxony-based recycled polyester polymer producer Matterr has announced a new partnership with Bestseller.
The Danish fashion group’s investment platform, Invest FWD, has taken a stake in Matterr, which has developed depolymerisation technology that it says is capable of transforming blended and hard-to-recycle textile waste into virgin-quality raw materials.
It also says the process is solvent-free, energy-efficient, scalable and “designed to deliver industrial impact at a competitive cost”.
Matterr said it would use the funding, plus support from the European Union, to construct its first small-scale industrial plant. The plant will be located in Germany.
Chief executive, Melanie Hackler, said the partnership with Bestseller would accelerate the start-up’s “mission to make polyester a resource that can be recycled repeatedly”.
She added that Bestseller and Matterr shared the belief that “drop-in-ready, economically viable, scalable solutions are the key to decarbonising the polyester industry”.
