AAFA welcomes trade relief provisions for key Central American partners
The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) has welcomed new frameworks for trade agreements between the US and two countries in Central America, El Salvador and Guatemala.
AAFA said the frameworks incorporate features that are “vital for the US textile, apparel, and footwear industry”.
Under these frameworks, the US will remove reciprocal tariffs on products have qualified for free-trade access under the CAFTA-DR agreement. AAFA pointed out that textiles and apparel coming into the US from El Salvador and Guatemala are already subject to strict rules of origin to make sure they meet CAFTA-DR requirements.
AAFA said similar provisions could later apply to other CAFTA-DR partner countries.
