Fast track initiative to boost regenerative cotton in India

21/11/2025
A new initiative, the Regenagri Fast Track Cotton Initiative, launched by Solidaridad Asia and WWF-India aims to increase regenerative farming of cotton in India to 1 million hectares. India is the world’s second-largest producer of cotton, but climate change and intensive agricultural practices threaten the country’s key crop, the organisations said.

Regenerative agriculture is believed to be the solution as it contributes to restoring soil health, enhancing the climate resilience of farmers, can drive up yields and incomes, while also enhancing biodiversity.

To accelerate the transition of small-holder farmers, the two organisations have endowed the Regenerative Fast Track Cotton Fund with a targeted €6 million. Solidaridad Asia and WWF-India are calling on the global fashion and textile industry, along with private sector partners and philanthropies, to contribute to the Fund.
