Italian mill and Suedwolle add merino to denim project

Specialist wool and wool-blend worsted yarns developer Suedwolle Group has worked with Italian mill Berto Industria Tessile and with the Woolmark Company to develop “a new generation of denim”.

The fabrics the companies have developed together are constructed using a classic 3/1 twill weave, with indigo-dyed cotton in the warp and a 100% merino wool in the weft.

Suedwolle said the fabrics combine “the authentic indigo look of classic denim with the softness and breathability of merino wool”. They move fluidly with the wearer and offer a greater comfort and versatility than traditional denim garments, it added.

Its aim, it said, was to preserve “the unmistakable character of denim while elevating it with merino’s natural advantages”. Among these, it listed a soft, smooth hand feel and enhanced breathability.
