eVent and Allied team up to improve moisture management in down jackets
eVent Fabrics has teamed up with Allied Feather + Down to showcase a new concept system that addresses internal and external moisture build up inside the insulation chambers of puffer jackets. A demo piece will be on display at Performance Days (March 18 & 19), where both companies have booths.
The jacket combines Alllied’s 800 fill power ExpeDRY down, which has a special gold particle finish that accelerates water vapour evaporation, with eVent’s 2-layer stormburstLT, a breathable, downproof and weatherproof laminate. Together, they are said to deliver advanced moisture management both inside and outside the jacket, as opposed to shell fabrics that are only downproof and tend to allow external moisture in.
“This is an opportunity to rethink how the entire insulation chamber functions,” commented Chad Kelly, vice president of eVent Fabrics. “stormburstLT delivers over 55,000 g/m² breathability with 8,000 mm waterproofness, while remaining 100% windproof and PFAS-free. By blocking external moisture and allowing interior vapour to escape more efficiently than traditional downproof shells, we’re helping the insulation system stay drier and perform more consistently.”
“Down is inherently breathable and the challenge has always been the surrounding fabric environment,” added Matthew Betcher, creative director for Allied Feather + Down.
ExpeDRY accelerates vapour movement away from the down clusters. When paired with a more breathable, downproof laminate like stormburstLT, ExpeDry’s ability to prevent condensation inside the insulation chamber is amplified.”
