Performance Days names Pontetorto as winner of the Eco Award
A new, bio-based microfleece has earned Italian fabric manufacturer Pontetorto the Eco Award at this October’s Performance Days exhibition.
Pontetorto has developed the new material, Fleece 6140/Biobased, using with wood-derived bio-PET from UPM Biochemicals. It will receive the award during the forthcoming edition of Performance Days, which takes place in Munich on October 13 and 14.
General manager, Marco Toccafondi, said Pontetorto was proud to win the Eco Award, but would also accept the accolade “with a sense of responsibility”.
He explained that by replacing fossil-based raw materials with bio-based fibres, the new microfleece material was able to offer a lower-carbon-footprint alternative to conventional polyester, while maintaining the performance, comfort, and technical characteristics required for high-performance applications.
He said Fleece 6140/Biobased was the result of extensive work carried out by “a team of passionate professionals with extraordinary expertise”.
