New film on technical textiles
09/12/2008
The BBC is to make a film for young people aged between 11 and 16 on the subject of technical textiles.
The project will be complete in the early part of 2009 and will be part of a series of informative programmes, which the corporation hopes will increase young people’s knowledge of a number of important issues and provoke classroom debate about them.
The technical textile programme will show how innovation often comes into apparel and footwear for elite athletes first, before filtering down to the ready-to-wear market. There will be a particular focus on the contribution performance textiles can make to reducing the resources clothes consume over their lifecycle, through making them washable at lower temperature, for example, and crease-resistant, reducing the need for ironing.
