The authorities in Argentina, where the spring planting season is under way, have reported that farmers there are sowing 36% more cotton than last year.
In total, the cotton crop next year should cover 426,000 hectares, part of an increased effort across the sector to boost production. In total, farmers across Argentina will sow 18 million hectares with crops as diverse as rice, sunflowers, sorghum, maize and peanuts.
Cotton crops in other producing countries are likely to fall next year.
