It was a sunny day in late September when local officials, company managers and many scientists and engineers convened in Clermont-Ferrand, a town in the centre of France, famous since 1889 as the home of tyre manufacturer Michelin. Biotech start-up  Carbios has a shorter history, ten years, but shares Clermont-Ferrand as a place of origin. The September gathering took place to mark that ten-year history, to celebrate bio-recycling technology that Carbios calls ground-breaking, and to see a newly installed demonstration plant that it believes will prove the point to the textile and apparel sector and others.
