Schoeller and Formosa tie-up results in faster-biodegrading polyester

Textiles manufacturers Schoeller and Formosa Taffeta have launched a collection of ‘biodegradable’ textiles under the brand name PROEARTH.

The bluesign-approved fabrics will debut as part of the SFTC line, a joint venture between the Swiss  and Taiwanese companies, at Premiere Vision in Paris.

The collection will launch with five fabrics made with virgin polyester that has been “optimised for biodegradation” and biodegrades at faster rates than competitive offerings, according to the companies. The first articles include jacket, pant and lining materials in various colours.

Christine Hübner, Schoeller’s chief research officer, said: “After much testing and development, we are truly excited to introduce this collection that is not only friendly to our planet but also a high-quality, luxurious product that consumers will love to wear.”
