Radici launches new Ingeo-based yarn
Italian yarn manufacturer RadiciGroup has launched CornLeaf, a yarn made from Ingeo polylactic acid (PLA) polymer.
According to the company it is a 100% biodegradable, solution-dyed continuous yarn, made using raw materials and production processes that reduce CO2 emissions and water and energy consumption.
Antimicrobial functionality is achieved by incorporating a special silver-based micro-compound into the yarn as an antimicrobial agent. CornLeaf’s bacteriostatic functionality is ISO 20743:2007-certified and is obtained using HEIQ materials. Laboratory tests show that the solution dyeing process and antimicrobial functionality do not compromise the compostability of the Ingeo PLA biopolymer.
The new yarn is lightweight, durable and offers greater hygroscopicity compared with synthetic yarns. It offers faster drying times than natural fibres and is UV-resistant.
