Bread & Butter to cull exhibitors for a more streamlined show

Berlin-based sports and urbanwear event Bread & Butter is to part with a number of long-term exhibitors and keep only the brands enjoying the “necessary acceptance in the community”.

Its president, Karl-Heinz Müller, said in a statement that the steps were necessary as the show has to remain a “driving force” in the segment and so “must take on the responsibility”.

He said: “There was speculation at the last event that we wanted to change the location and that I was about to sell Bread & Butter: both are not true.

“However, I am not happy with everything. We have no alternative but to select our exhibitors even more carefully in the future. Our relevant top brands expect a strict selection and the adjustment of their neighbourhoods.”

The next event, which will take place from January 15 to17, 2013, is called ‘For the bold and the brave brands’, which Müller says is relevant considering the steps he is taking. The hall will be restructured and redesigned, and the neighbourhoods will “massively change”.

“As of now, we will only accept brands and labels enjoying the necessary acceptance in the community. This applies to bigger brands, but also to smaller labels,” he said.

“In the course of the next days, we will undertake the necessary measures to inform those brands and labels with whom we cannot continue to cooperate.”
