OMsignal, a developer of bio-sensing clothing, has secured seed-round financing of C$1 million from venture capital firms Real Ventures, Golden Venture Partners and David Cohen.

The Canadian company has created clothing that picks ups “physiological signals” from the body that are interpreted via mobile devices. “Actionable insights” are derived from heart rates and respiratory rhythms as well as tension levels or "emotive" states, says the company.

Its team includes scientists, engineers, designers, intelligent textile specialists, medical practitioners and mobile product experts.

Alan MacIntosh, from Real Ventures noted: "OMsignal has tapped into Montreal's unique history of high-end textile development and its vibrant tech start-up community."

This summer, the company will open its bio-sensing apparel platform to external parties. Stéphane Marceau, OMsignal’s CEO, said: "Our ultimate goal is to enable a variety of partner services and applications to help people lead healthier and happier lives.”
