Palmetto to make Repreve fibre in the US

31/07/2013
Unifi has announced a manufacturing and distribution agreement for its Repreve brand of recycled fibres with specialty synthetic fibre producer Palmetto Synthetics.

Under this relationship, Unifi’s Repreve chips, produced at its own recycling centre from post-consumer plastic bottles, will be purchased and processed into staple fibre in the US by Palmetto. The fibre will be sold under the Repreve brand name.

“We have a shared vision with Unifi to provide the textile industry with high-quality, innovative products, which led us to this supply relationship,” said David Poston, vice-president of Palmetto Synthetics at the time of the announcement. “We have seen a big shift in enquiries for a domestically made recycled fibre, and this initiative with Unifi allows us to amplify our domestic efforts.”

Jay Hertwig, vice-president of global branding at Unifi, said the development would provide the textile industry with “a transparent recycled solution”.
