India-based fibre and yarn manufacturer Reliance Industries has commissioned a new polyester filament yarn facility in Silvassa, taking the group’s total production capacity to 1.5 million tonnes per year.

The company claims the new plant is one of the most automated and environmentally friendly in the world.

The commissioning marks the beginning of a strategy to grow Reliance’s petrochemical facilities.

Reliance had an annual turnover of $68.4 billion and profits of $3.9 billion in the year to the end of March, 2013.
