He reportedly suffered heart failure after a flight to Hong Kong.
Mr Jaeger set up the Big Pack brand in 1976 and bought ski binding company Ess in 1982, developing a new ski binding system.
He was one of the founding members of the OutDoor show in Friedrichshafen and set up the Nanjing event in 2006.
“Knut Jaeger was a remarkable person, always thinking positive and always on the go. He knew how to motivate others and to bring his team along with him,” said Klaus Wellmann, CEO of show organiser Messe Friedrichshafen.
"Everything outdoor was his life and his passion. He enthusiastically and tirelessly worked to promote the outdoor industry and outdoor themes, putting all of his professional effort into making sure that outdoor activities really took off.
"We will deeply miss his creative force and his dedication, but will continue to move the effort forward, in his memory.”
Asia Outdoor has grown steadily and will this year host the inaugural Asia Outdoor Summit on the first day, July 23.
