Valencia-based Tejidos Royo has prepared two fabrics under its Armalith brand of high-protection denim, with motorcycling clothing one of the target applications.

According to the company, the fabrics offer high levels of protection, but also a true denim look. They are made from cotton and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE ). The special yarn is made with a UHMWPE core covered with cotton.

In one case, the fabric composition is 57% cotton, 33% UHMWPE, 8% Lycra T400 and 2% elastane. The polyethylene is only in the weft, with a 100% cotton warp. It has a fabric weight of 480 grammes per square-metre.

In the other case, the composition is 52% cotton, 42% UHMWPE, 3% Lycra T400 and 3% elastane. In this fabric the polyethylene yarn is used in both warp and weft and the fabric weight is 300 grammes per square-metre. It’s lighter in weight thanks to the increased use of polyethylene.
