UKFT supports 330 designers at Paris Fashion Week

The UK fashion and textile association supported 330 British designers across the tradeshows and showrooms during the recent Paris Women’s Fashion Week, one of the largest British contingents to show in one city at one time.

UKFT feared that the Paris attacks would discourage fashion and accessories buyers from the US and Japan, whose corporations are often refused overseas travel insurance cover in the aftermath of such attacks. In addition, there was talk of a seismic change in the importance of wholesale business and the effects of Burberry’s announcement that they would make collections from the runway available immediately afterwards to consumers.

However, it said while business was ‘softer’ than usual with the Americans largely missing, the Japanese were very much in evidence, especially at Tranoi Bourse and Carrousel and Première Classe.

It said: “The trend towards smaller specialist multibrand showrooms with a unique selection of collections and a high degree of personal service continued this season, in line with our expectations. The buyers were present and were placing orders.”
