ICAC approves Bangladesh membership

02/03/2017
The International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) has announced that Bangladesh has completed all the necessary formalities to become a member of the organisation. The country’s application was led by the Ministry of Textile and Jute.

José Sette, executive director of the ICAC, commented: “ICAC is proud that Bangladesh will join us as a member. The importance of Bangladesh to the world cotton market has grown considerably in recent years, to the point that Bangladesh has now become the world’s largest importer of cotton, which is used as a raw material for the country’s vibrant textile industry.”

He added that the accession of Bangladesh would help the ICAC become even more representative of the global cotton value chain.
