Graphene keeps giving grip for inov-8
The latest graphene-enhanced footwear product from UK-based technical sportswear brand Inov-8 is the Mudclaw G 260, a shoe designed for running in muddy conditions.

The product was initially slated for release in summer 2018 alongside the Terraultra G 260 long-distance running shoe. What has emerged now is a slightly modified design, with different shaped studs and a more durable upper.

Inov-8 has infused graphene, the strongest material on the planet, into a number of its footwear products. It sells these as part of its G-Series range. In this instance, it has helped make the studs of the Mudclaw G 260 stronger, more elastic and harder wearing.

Michael Price, inov-8’s product and marketing director, has said: “The rubber studs look more like claws or fangs. Through extensive testing we have found that these new shaped studs give the best possible traction when running or obstacle racing over muddy terrain and, unlike racing spikes, also provide underfoot comfort on harder ground.”

The shoes have been tested by a number of athletes, including UK mountain runner Ben Mounsey. The brand says he has clocked up more than 1,100 miles while wearing a prototype pair over a number of months. During that time, inov-8 has worked to improve other elements of the shoe, including the durability of the upper material.

The athletes that the Mudclaw G 260 is aimed at include fell and trail runners, obstacle racers, orienteers and cross-country participants.
