Donghua University to lead on ‘major’ textile research

Shanghai’s Donghua University was recently formally approved as a “modern textile frontier scientific research base” by the city’s education commission, Chinese media have reported.

The university was especially praised for its existing strengths in textile science and engineering and, as a newly accredited research base, Donghua will reportedly organise “high-level” teams to focus on solving “major” problems in these areas going forward.

Specifically, textile technologists and engineers based at the institution (and other approved research bases) will undertake original, forward-looking investigations into textile processing theory and technology, textile chemistry (including green dyeing and finishing methods), textile machinery and intelligent manufacturing, in particular.

Local reports underscored how the initiative was rooted in the Ministry of Education’s national-level plans for “basic research” advancement in the higher education arena, as well as Shanghai’s own higher education innovation strategy and improvement plan.
