Sports group adidas has launched a new version of its Ultraboost performance running shoe. It said this version, Ultraboost 22, is “informed by women-specific insights” and will provide women runners with a shoe that is tailored to female feet.

An all-women team of designers and product developers worked on the project, using an online anatomy database of 1.2 million scans of feed, and liaising with women runners and testers. Differences the team focused on include instep height, heel anatomy and gait-cycle trends.

They have fine-tuned the company’s S- curve UB21 last, created a narrower heel pocket, shallower forefoot profile and lower instep area. A refined outsole is designed to help runners avoid overpronation.
The end result is what adidas has called “the biggest update to the Ultraboost line-up yet”.
