Umbro and Texon together in ‘world first’

Materials solutions developer for the footwear industry Texon and sportswear and equipment manufacturer Umbro, also based in England, recently revealed what was described as a “world first” in the realm of football boot design and production.

Namely, Texon’s ProWeave jacquard weaving technology, which is said to deliver zonal, multi-directional stretch, resulting in enhanced structural support, has been included in Umbro’s autumn-winter 2022 speed silo plans.

The two parties also explained that Umbro will retain exclusive rights to use of the technology in the football boots category until 2023. They further stated that additional details on the collaboration would not be released until the third quarter of next year.

Speaking on behalf of Texon, the company’s business acceleration leader for ProWeave, Paul Jackson, commented: “We are incredibly excited to be working with Umbro on a world first in the football boot arena.

"ProWeave is a unique solution that opens up infinite new creative possibilities, enabling footwear designers to place zonal features exactly where they want them. This has huge benefits for the wearer in terms of performance, movement and comfort. We look forward to seeing the technology in action on football pitches worldwide in autumn-winter 2022.”
