Puma snaps up Olympic 100 metres champion

Sports brand Puma has added Italian sprinter Marcell Jacobs to its roster.

Mr Jacobs is the reigning Olympic and European champion in the men’s 100 metres event, as well as both World and European champion for the 60 metres indoor sprint.

He was also part of Italy's winning team in the 4 x 100 metres relay race during the last Summer Olympics, which took place in Tokyo over July and August of 2021 following a one-year postponement due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The athlete will now wear Puma’s EvoSpeed Tokyo Nitro track and field spikes at events, beginning with the Orlen Cup in Lodz, Poland, on February 4.

The shoes feature lightweight and responsive Nitro Elite foam technology in the forefront, plus a full-length Pebax plate made by French speciality chemicals company Arkema. Pebax, a thermoplastic elastomer, is said to have advanced lightness, energy return and shock resistance properties, according to its manufacturer.

“We are thrilled to welcome Marcell Jacobs, Usain Bolt’s successor as the Olympic 100 metres champion, to the Puma family,” commented the Germany-based brand’s head of sports marketing, Pascal Rolling. “Puma has an incredible line-up of athletes ahead of some very important track and field events this year and next."
