Nike Air Alpha Force 88s harness algae inks

A new collaborative trainer from sports brand Nike and US singer Billie Eilish, the Nike Air Alpha Force 88, notably relies on algae-based black inks from US biomaterials firm Living Ink as colourants, in place of the petroleum-derived carbon blacks that are typically more prevalent elsewhere in the market.

At least 25% of each pair’s materials are recycled, including synthetics like polyester and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), in addition to other recycled textile elements.

The shoes are available in two colourways, either black-and-white or red-black-white.
