ISPO Munich and OutDoor by ISPO rejigged

16/11/2021

Following on from the recent announcement that Klaus Dittrich will be stepping down as its chief executive in mid-2022, German event organiser Messe München has taken the decision to permanently move the dates of both the ISPO Munich and OutDoor by ISPO trade shows, effective immediately.

Whereas ISPO Munich will now take place every November, OutDoor by ISPO will be brought forward from its previous June date to sometime around the end of May or beginning of June each year, organisers said. In 2022, the former will be staged between November 28 and 30. The latter will run June 12 through 14.

Both events will be shortened to three days apiece, with maximum booth sizes introduced.

According to a statement, the decision to redesign the annual schedule is in large part due to global supply chain shifts and the subsequent impact on buying cycles in recent years. The move was made following consultation with industry figures hailing from sports and outdoor brands, retailers and industry associations, in order to better align the shows with their industry-specific order cycles.

Mr Dittrich commented: “When the industry changes, we also have to find new ways. The new dates are the ideal response to current and future challenges. Above all, they offer completely new opportunities for industry and trade.”

Head of the consumer goods business unit at Messe München, Tobias Gröber, added that the shift will support the creation of “a completely new business ecosystem” in Munich, with increased relevance to buyers and suppliers alike.

In concurrence, European Outdoor Group president, Mark Held, stated: “The new timing better reflects the realities of the market now and in the future and creates an international beacon event for all stakeholders at the right time - before the majority of the seasonal order business is conducted.”
