Unifi adds to its dyed yarn portfolio

US yarn manufacturer Unifi has entered into agreement to acquire the dyed yarn business and assets of National Spinning Co., a specialist in dyed short staple and long staple spun yarns.

“The acquisition is expected to enhance Unifi's position as a leading producer of dyed staple and filament yarn in the region, and will add acrylic and wool products to the company's dyed yarn portfolio,” Unifi said.

It explained it will relocate its news dyed yarn business from National Spinning’s facility in Burlington, North Carolina to Unifi’s dye house in Reidsville, also in North Carolina.

Once this transition is completed, Unifi said it expects its facility to operate on a seven-day schedule so as to offer quicker lead times and to improve its response to customer needs.

In order to ensure a smooth transition, a number of key sales, technical and operations personnel from National Spinning will join Unifi.

The companies expect the transaction to close in May 2018, subject to typical closing conditions.
