Restructuring at Nike

23/03/2009

Nike has decided to reorganise its Nike brand into six geographical regions and will also reduce management layers.

The brand previously comprised four regions: the US, Asia Pacific, the Americas and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). However, it has now been reorganised into the following regions: North America, Western Europe, Eastern/Central Europe, Greater China, Japan and emerging markets.

"This new model sharpens our consumer focus and will allow us to make faster decisions, with fewer management layers," said Charlie Denson, the brand‘s president.

The following leaders have been appointed: Craig Cheek for North America (former VP and GM for US region); Brent Scrimshaw for Western Europe (former VP of EMEA brand management); Marc van Pappelendam for Eastern/Central Europe (former commercial director, EMEA); Willem Haitink for Greater China (former GM of China); Jim Godbout for Japan: (former GM of Japan); and Jayme Martin for emerging markets (former VP and GM of the Americas region). These positions will report directly to Gary DeStefano, president global operations. Roland Wolfram (former VP and GM of the Asia Pacific region) will assume the role of head of global sales also reporting to Gary DeStefano.

This organisational change is part of a wider company restructuring that may result in an overall reduction of up to 4% of the company's workforce.
