Hohenstein works to improve fit
The Hohenstein Institute in Boennigheim has been regularly carrying out representative sizing surveys for many years. The results of the measurements taken are then compiled into the Hohenstein Sizing Chart, which has come to form the basis for the sizing of readymade clothing in German-speaking countries.
After updating the size charts in the 1980s and 1990s, Hohenstein used a body scanner to carry out the first three-dimensional representative sizing survey on the German population in 2000. For the first time, information about details of the shape of the human body was provided to the apparel industry.
In the summer of 2007, some 50 years after the first German representative sizing survey, the SizeGermany project got underway. Selected results of the representative sizing survey will be presented to in conjunction with the IMB, which will take place in Cologne from April 21-24.
Experts will provide help with implementing the new SizeGermany size tables in patternmaking and in testing and optimisation of workmanship and fit for all types of apparel.
