Teen appetite for sports clothing stays strong

Sportswear JD Sports, the UK’s third largest sports retailer, has said it expects further growth this year because its main target market, teenagers, has remained largely unaffected by the recession.
The Financial Times reported pre-tax profits for the company for the year ending January 31 rose 24% to £53.6m.
JD Sports has also said that trading in the first nine weeks of the new company year, up to April 4, had also been “encouraging” with like-for-like sales up 0.3%, in spite of the fact that last year’s figures include sales for the Easter holiday, which fell eariler in 2008.
