Hyosung celebrates recycling certification

09/04/2009

Fibre producer Hyosung has obtained Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification for the recycled nylon and polyester yarns it markets under the brand names of MIPAN regen nylon and regen polyester.

The GRS provides validation for claims regarding recycled products for textiles and clothing.

Hyosung said on announcing the news that it had become the first synthetic fibre company to fulfil all of the conditions and to obtain the certification, which came after an audit of all the facilities it uses in the production of the yarns, from raw material collection to spinning and texturing.

“We are very pleased to add more credibility to our recycled fibres with this third-party certification," said BK Cho, vice-president of the Hyosung Corporation." Now our mill customers and retailers and brands can use them with more confidence.”

MIPAN regen is 50% recycled nylon which is made from 100% post-consumer materials. Hyosung calls it "the first and only" recycled nylon filament yarn made from post-consumer material for textile applications. Regen polyester is 100% recycled polyester made from 100% post-consumer materials.

The company also points out that the process of converting waste to yarn produces fewer carbon-dioxide emissions and uses less petroleum-based energy than manufacturing from scratch.
