The organisers of the IMB exhibition in Cologne have announced the winners of the Innovation Awards competition, which runs in conjunction with the textile equipment and technology event.

This year, the panel of five judges named French company Sarl Erbe Innovation as the winner of the first prize in the exhibitors' competition for an intelligent linking machine it has developed. Second prize in this category went to technology provider Lectra for its Design Concept software, with Durkoppp Adler from Germany picking up third for a machine for decorative seams.

The awards also included a Research and Development category. First prize here went to the Institute of Textile and Clothing Technology at the Technical University of Dresden for a 3D simulation package it has developed called Cirtual Fit Simulation. The judges said they believed the idea had the potential to greatly improve production processes in the apparel industry. Second prize went to the Institute of Textiles and
Clothing of the Hong Kong Polytechnic for an idea it describes as an intelligent real-time decision support system for planning and control. The Faculty of Textile Technology at the University of Zagreb won third prize for a modular microwave device it has produced for thermal treatments of flexible materials. Prizes in this category were €7,000, €2,000 and €1,000 respectively.

In a third category, for students and young professionals, UK-based Anne Selby picked up the first prize of €3,000 for a new wrapping machine called the Compleat Arashi Shibori.

Congratulations to all winners.
