Gander Mountain Company aims to keep improving

Gander Mountain Company, the US's largest retail network for clothing and apparel for hunting, fishing, and camping has announced record sales for the fiscal year ending January 31, 2009.

The company registered sales of $1.1 billion, an increase of 9.8% on the previous year's total. The company reported a net loss for the year of $15.5 million, which compared to a loss of more than $30 million last year.

David Pratt, the company's interim chief executive, said on announcing the results: "We applied a more disciplined approach to our operations, capital, and expense decisions. Thus far into 2009, in a difficult retail environment, we continue to see progress in operating performance. Our ongoing efforts to build the leadership team, improve operating margins, and reduce debt should continue the momentum we generated in' this last fiscal year."
