Textiles New Zealand appoints new CEO

Ian Barbour, chair of Textiles New Zealand, has announced that Elizabeth Tennet has been appointed chief executive and will take up her new role on May 11.

Speaking about the appointment, Mr Barbour said: “She has a strong economic development background both nationally and regionally and a very good understanding of the issues facing the textiles manufacturing sector in New Zealand. We are confident that she will rapidly establish a key leadership role in advancing the textiles industry, addressing the real challenges and opportunities it faces transforming it into a vibrant and growing sector.”

Ms Tennet has, in recent years, held senior positions with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, has run her own business and was the MP for Island Bay for three terms.

Textiles New Zealand is an industry development organisation whose key goal is to support and assist the New Zealand textiles, footwear, apparel and carpet industry to realise market opportunities, develop policy and to transform the industry, ensuring growth and sustainability. It works with government agencies to facilitate industry-wide projects and programmes and acts as a conduit for dispersing information.
