The European Outdoor Group’s sustainability working group (SWG) has a new live website (www.europeanoutdoorsustainability.org), which gives users updates of all aspects of the SWG’s work.

The SWG’s mission is to provide relevant insight and solutions to sustainability challenges facing the outdoor industry and its global stakeholders.

Cortney McDermott, chair of the SWG said: “In a relatively short period of time we have managed to move quickly forward, we aim to have tangible benefits available to the wider industry as soon as possible. The whole area of sustainability is vital for today’s industry, the environmental performance of a product system can be extremely challenging but by working as an industry and sharing information we will solve some of the problems.”

The group will also host a sustainability workshop during OutDoor at 8.30am on the Friday morning of the fair (July 17). It will help industry representatives to get involved and hear the latest developments. One area that will be covered is the impact of REACH within the outdoor sector and how companies can cope with the regulations being faced.

In terms of outreach, two new committees have been set up to look at end-of-life as well as regulations and standards. The group is looking for new people to join these committees; those that are interested can sign up on the website.
